Octane Capital has joined the Bridging & Development Lenders Association (BDLA) as a Lender Member.

Founded in 2017, Octane is a specialist property lender offering bridging, refurbishment and developer exit finance through brokers. It has lent more than £2.2bn since launch and was bought by Aldermore Bank earlier this year.

The sector's dedicated trade body

The BDLA is the only UK trade association set up specifically to represent bridging and development lenders and their customers. Its members include lenders as well as associate firms from across the market, such as funders, law firms, valuers, technology providers and other professional services businesses.

BDLA CEO Adam Tyler said Octane's decision to join shows that more established lenders are getting involved with the association. He said that as the market has grown, it has become more important for lenders to work together on the standards, challenges and opportunities facing the sector. He added that Octane brings deep experience of specialist property lending.

A more active role

Richard Deacon, Managing Director (Sales) at Octane Capital, said specialist lending has matured a great deal. However, he said there is still work to do to raise the sector's profile and improve understanding of it among a wider audience.

Joining the BDLA gives us the chance to play a more active role.

Deacon said that by sharing its experience and working with other lenders, Octane can help promote high standards, improve understanding of specialist finance and give the sector a strong, united voice on the issues that matter.
